P4 - Scriptural Treasure Hunt

St Elizabeth's, Hamilton

To help the children become more aware of how a Bible is composed  and in considering The Word Of The Lord  as part of our Mass, the class took part in a Biblical Treasure Hunt. We began by locating this scripture verse:

Matthew 13:44 ""The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field.

and discussing  what it might mean.  After deciding upon the easiest interpretation, groups of children were given sections of Scripture, properly referenced, to read, discuss then go outdoors and find.  For example the children given this verse:

Isaiah 40:8:

"The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever."............explored the school grounds and could find flowers.

This energetic activity got so many learning aims across and was a very enjoyable way for children to learn more about The Bible and its meanings.
