Clergy Appointments



Bishop Toal has announced the following clergy appointments in the Diocese:


• Fr Tom Devine has asked to step down from his Office as Parish Priest of St Patrick’s, Strathaven, and Bishop Toal has accepted that this will happen on Sunday October 17th. Fr Devine will move to St Mary’s, Lanark, and will assist Fr John Paul McShane in St Mary’s and St Isidore’s, Biggar. The Diocese thanks Fr Tom for his ministry in St Patrick’s and in other parishes and wishes him well in Lanark.


• Fr Francis McGachey will becomes Administrator of St Patrick’s until the beginning of 2022, when some clergy moves will take place. We wish Fr Francis well as he starts out again on his own. Thanks also to Fr Michael Kane, Deacon David Harper, and parishioners of St Augustine’s, Coatbridge, for accompanying Fr McGachey over the past year.


• Michael Meechan will be ordained a deacon on 4th October, Feast of St Francis of Assisi, in St Athansius, Carluke, and will minister as a deacon in Carluke, where he has had a pastoral placement with Fr Tom Magill during his time of formation. We ask God’s blessing for Michael for his ordination and his ministry as a deacon.


• Deacon Mario Vannini is moving for a six month trial period to the town of Dalbeattie near Dumfries and will serve as a deacon during this period in St Peter’s, Dalbeattie. We wish Deacon Mario well during his time in Galloway Diocese and thank him for his ministry to date in St Margaret’s and St Serf’s, Airdrie.
