Bishop Toal has announced the following clergy appointments to take effect from January 2022:
Fr Dominic Towey will relinquish his Office of Parish Priest of St John the Baptist’s, Uddingston, on Friday 28th January 2022. He will then reside in St Augustine’s, Coatbridge, and assist Fr Michael Kane. I acknowledge and thank Fr Dominic for his ministry as priest in St John the Baptist’s and in previous parishes. Although stepping down as a PP, Fr Dominic will continue to be active and his presence and service will be much appreciated in St Augustine’s. Fr Dominic is the last serving Irish PP in the Diocese of Motherwell so he is the end of a great line of Irish priests who were ordained for the Diocese of Motherwell and have given the whole of their priesthood to the Church here. We are very grateful for all they have brought to Scotland, and in particular to Motherwell. We continue to be richly blessed through the ministry of Canon Humphrey O’Mahoney, Mgr Michael Conway, Fr Pat Hennessy, and Fr Eamonn Sweeney, and now Fr Dominic Towey, in the parishes they reside in.
Fr Ivan Boyle, Parish Priest of St Vincent de Paul’s, East Kilbride, will move to become PP of St John the Baptist’s, Uddingston, on 28th January 2022. I thank Fr Ivan for his priestly ministry in St Vincent’s and wish him every blessing in his new parish. Fr Ivan is in much better health and is ready to take on the challenge of a new parish. Deacon Alan Brown will continue to minister along with Fr Ivan in Uddingston.
Fr Romanus Enyinnia will become Administrator of St Vincent De Paul’s, East Kilbride, on 28th January 2022. Fr Romanus has been sponsored by the Diocese of Motherwell since he came to Scotland from the Diocese of Ahiara, Nigeria, and has recently returned after ministering in the Diocese of Aberdeen through the last four years. I wish Fr Romanus every blessing when he takes up his duties in St Vincent’s. Deacon Joe Gallagher will continue to minister in St Vincent’s and will assist Fr Romanus in all aspects of parish life and administration. Fr Romanus is already on the Emergency Rota for Hairmyres Hospital and will also assist Fr Sean Wylie in the Chaplaincy of St Andrew’s and St Bride’s Secondary School.
Deacon Joe Callaghan intends to retire from the ministry of Deacon in Our Lady and St Anne’s, Hamilton. I thank Deacon Joe for his service in the parish and wish him every blessing and good health in his retirement.
With my prayers and best wishes,
Yours in Christ,
+ Joseph Toal
